Are you a high school senior missing your English class? Are you also planning to attend a Michigan college or university in the fall?

If you answered “yes” to both of those questions, then be aware that LAFCU is hosting a “unique 2020 LAFCU Write to Educate Essay Contest.”

Applicants are asked to write essays examining how technology plays a part in their lives, including its negative and positive impacts.

Two winners will be chosen among entries and will each be awarded $2,500. Winners will also pick from a selection of charities for a $500 donation from LAFCU to that charity.

The winning essays will also be published in the Lansing State Journal, the community sponsor of this contest.

According to Kelli Ellsworth Etchison, LAFCU’s chief marketing officer, the company is holding this contest because its leaders feel that higher education should be available to all.

“LAFCU believes that higher education should be within reach of anyone who has the passion to pursue it,” Etchison said in a press release sent to ELi. “That’s why recipients are selected based solely on their one-page essay without regard to other factors such as grades.”

The contest deadline is Tuesday, March 31. Applicants do not need to be LAFCU members and every Michigan high school senior qualifies for this scholarship. For more information and to submit an essay, visit the LAFCU website.
