City of East Lansing Is Resuming Meetings

Alice Dreger April 14, 2020August 18, 2021

In recognition that the public’s business can’t stop, the City of East Lansing is starting to hold meetings again. Today the City announced three meetings that will happen electronically this week.

The Library Board of Trustees will meet Wednesday, April 15, starting at 4:30 p.m. via Zoom. The agenda with a link to the meeting is available here with additional information here. Public comment is scheduled for just after the start of the meeting. According to East Lansing Communications Coordinator Mikell Frey, that meeting will not be recorded.

Thursday, April 16, the East Lansing-Meridian Water & Sewer Authority Board of Trustees will be meeting bright and early, starting at 7:30 a.m. Information about that meeting, including how to participate, is available at the City’s public meeting notice page. It will also not be recorded.

A later meeting on Thursday will be recorded and archived. That’s the meeting of the Downtown Management Board, starting at 4 p.m. The plan is to talk about “Consideration of Funding Requests for Business Support Initiatives within the Downtown Management Board district in direct response to COVID-19.” Read more at the bottom of this page.

Frey tells ELi that a Downtown Development Authority (DDA) meeting is “tentatively planned for next Thursday, April 23, at noon.”

She says the City is also “tentatively looking at having a special City Council meeting the last week in April.” Usually by this point in the year, Council would be well into budget discussions, but those have not started yet.

Asked about whether there would be a Planning Commission meeting up, Frey indicated there is not one scheduled for April at this time.

And what about the committee that was supposed to review proposals from developers for the DDA’s Evergreen Avenue properties? We asked whether that committee will even be meeting, given that they ended up with only one application. Frey would say only that no meeting of that group is scheduled for April.
